Alexander McQueen - SS 2001

This is not fashion!

Where is the catwalk? Where is the front row? Where is the ready-to-wear concept? These are not clothes. These are not models. This is not fashion. This is art.

Flouncy party dresses, feathers, asymmetrical shapes and pale faces. Alfred Hitchcock’s birds, Lucien Freud’s art. Black, pale blush pink, Japanese prints and spectacular headdresses. Surrealism and cubism squared. Minimalism commits suicide at this show and gives birth to the real Alexander the Great of British fashion industry: Alexander McQueen. He is not a designer. He is not even a couturier. No. He is an artist. And this is art. A-R-T. ART.
